American Staffordshire Terrier / Hound / Mixed (short coat) Dog

Murphy the Dog needs a home

Meet Murphy… This handsome boy just lost the only family he’s ever known after he went after the neighbor’s cat. His family thought it was best to rehome him and give him a fresh start. He was a little nervous when he first came to his foster home and would get anxious when his foster dad left the room, but he quickly bonded with the other dogs there, and is settling in.

Murphy is very calm with he meets a new dog, and doesn’t react to over excited pups. He’s playful, and loves running around with the other dogs and snuggling up on the couch to watch TV. He’s more submissive in his play, preferring to romp and chase rather than roughhouse. Inside the home he follows the pack, shares well, and is respectful around food and toys with the other dogs. He is currently being fostered with dogs his size and larger, but previously lived with two small Boston Terriers.

Murphy has a medium energy level; he needs his daily exercise and playtime, but is not high energy. He trots around the yard slowly and sniffs, inspecting the perimeter. Inside, he’s very mellow, and a great couch companion. He follows his foster dad, James, around the house, and if he’s working at home, Murphy will find a spot on the couch nearby. He’s very connected to his person, but also really needs a pup companion in his home. He’s not a fan of the crate, and gets very anxious when left alone in one. He’s fully potty trained, and does much better when left free roam with the other dogs. He’s still adjusting to his new home and life, but is quickly finding his way.

Like many pups, his leash walking skills need work, but he learns quickly. After only a few days, he can already walk next to James without pulling after a few minutes. He hopes to have Murphy fully leash trained by the time he finds a home. He has no reactivity on leash towards other dogs, and his main distraction on walks is excitement over squirrels. Fortunately, he’s very easy to correct and wants to please.

Murphy lived with kids in his prior home, and is very gentle with them and respectful. He'll make a great family dog, and just needs a little time to settle in and pup buddy in his home to help with his confidence. He’s more shy than confident, but is still a social dog, and really a sweet, gentle soul. He really likes people too, and always wants to be right by your side…definitely a snuggler.

More to come on this very sweet pup as we learn more about him. If you want to make Murphy a part of your family, apply today.
